I joined the health and Sanitation program for 3 weeks and most of my time spent in the health post was spent taking the blood pressure and temperature of the patients who come. I would also observe the Auxiliary Health workers (knowledgeable individuals who would take on the job of a Physician even though they weren’t officially trained in medicine) as they diagnosed the problem and prescribed medication. For me, it was the first time I saw a scabies patient or a Tuberculosis patient and it was a learning experience. If you are also a health student I would recommend bringing your own set of diagnostic tools such as your stethoscope and penlight. Besides working at the health-post, I also interacted with some of the villagers and I would say that this was the favorite part of my journey.
